Blog Interior Design zoom meeting with Bea Pila
In my interior design class here at Converse College we were able to have a zoom meeting with Bea Pila, an interior designer in Miami, Florida. We talked about the growing threat of "diy" interior design and what made us want to join the field despite this. What made me want to join the design field is the idea of creating interior spaces that can benefit someone's lifestyle and make them happy. Bea Pila talked about how you can’t get a deep connection with a designer when doing a diy. Interior designers are meant to bond with the client and figure out their lifestyle to understand what will work best for them.
Work-in-progress: Art In Action Mental Health & Interior Design
How Interior Design Can Impact Your Mental Health
The interior design of a room can significantly affect your mood. The way you furnish your home, paint your walls, and arrange your belongings will all have big impacts on your sense of security and well-being. Anxiety and depression are the most common of mental health illnesses and many interior design techniques have been shown to reduce stress and depression. Designers use color, lighting, layouts, textures, and artwork to create motivating, uplifting spaces that will promote efficiency, creativity, and happiness. The effects of sunlight, spaciousness, plants and flowers, natural elements, and color can create an environment helpful to reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. In my creation, I added specific elements that will create a positive impact on one’s mental health. In this living room, I added huge tall windows that will bring in sunlight, a major mood lifter that can boost happiness. When creating this I made sure to keep it open and clean with no clutter. I also brought nature into the room by placing a big potted plant beside the sofa and in the backyard behind the window, I would plant colorful flowers to look out to. Color is a significant element, so I chose orange and light teal. Orange can serve as a cheerful mood lifter and light teal can create a calming and relaxing atmosphere.

Drafting...
Above are a few work-in-progress draft plans that I did. The image to the left are three different drafting plans for kitchens. In the other two images are hallways in the Milliken building at Converse. Drafting is something I have just learned, but I enjoy doing it and plan to do more of them!
